WEEk 5: Beat updates and thoughts on Ch. 8
Women’s wellness can be a journey of highs and lows, especially during that time of the month when hormonal changes can throw off even the most disciplined eating habits. Personally, I find it nearly impossible to resist cravings during this time, and tonight was no exception. I indulged in a binge of ice cream, only to feel regret later. Along with cravings comes the dreaded feeling of laziness, making it even harder to stick to my Pilates routine. However, part of wellness is knowing when to rest, and one sure sign for me is the appearance of a cold sore. It’s like my body’s way of saying “enough,” signaling that I’ve pushed myself too hard and need to prioritize rest. In today’s busy world, finding time to rest can be challenging, but it’s essential for our overall well-being. Even when not on my time of the month, I am one of those that need my full eight hours to function properly, so now I would love to lounge in bed for a full twelve. In honor of rest I’ve included a link to an article from the greatist, which includes facts about sleep and tips to find better sleep.

Moving on to the topic of toxic relationships, it’s perplexing why some people seem to insidiously infiltrate our lives despite our best efforts to keep them out. Take, for example, a girl I’ve been mentoring who endured repeated sexual assaults during her time in foster care. Despite her traumatic past, she still struggles with discernment when it comes to relationships. Recently, she befriended someone who took advantage of her kindness by constantly asking for money and then attempting to use her credit card without permission. When confronted, this so-called friend responded with anger and defensiveness. Despite the warning signs, my mentee finds herself torn between forgiving her friend and recognizing the toxicity of their relationship. It’s a reminder that toxic people can be manipulative and hard to recognize, even when the evidence is staring us in the face.
Chapter 8 of “Elements of Journalism”
Chapter 8 of “Elements of Journalism” talks about how important it is for journalists to tell stories that have a clear purpose. Journalism is more than just giving out facts; it's about making those facts interesting and relatable to the reader. Journalists have to find ways to keep people interested in their stories, even when they're busy. While there's a traditional way of organizing news stories called the inverted pyramid, it doesn't always keep people's attention. Instead, journalists should focus on making the important facts interesting and relatable without making things too exciting or fake. By doing this, journalists can create stories that inform and inspire readers without losing their trust.
